In a Norwegian wedding there could be hours worth of long speeches, sing-alongs with home-made lyrics and performances of various qualities, all carefully coordinated between the coffee and cake sessions. On the other hand, Mexican weddings normally don’t have such a fixed programme, they are mainly about partying and dancing.
In our wedding, we would like to keep a part of this Norwegian tradition, and also to give an opportunity for our friends and family who could not make it to Puebla to be with us a bit more than in spirit.
So, we have thought about presenting video clips where people can say a few words, do some jokes on the bride or groom’s behalf, or perform their carefully prepared song based on Baa Baa Black Sheep.
In short, all you need to do is find a video camera, fancy mobile phone, digital camera or anything else that can produce a video in some kind of digital format, record a little piece, no longer than 5 minutes, with your greetings in your language, and send it to us within 1st of February 2008.
We will then put it all together, hopefully with subtitles, and show it on a big screen during the wedding. If you permit us, we can also make the edited video available on the Internet for people who could not make it to the wedding.
Formats
Try to keep your videos shorter than 5 minutes!
Try to make sure the sound quality is good enough, and speak in your own language unless you feel brave! Don’t worry, we’ll add the subtitles.
Since we are going to edit together the videos, we kindly ask you to send your video in a digital format. This includes:
- miniDV (digital video cameras using tapes)
- DVD and miniDVD (digital video cameras using discs)
- AVI, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, QuickTime, etc. (digital photo cameras, mobile phones, web cameras)
(Unfortunately we don’t have the equipment available to transfer videos from VHS, VHS-C or similar analogue formats)
Sending us the videos
For MiniDV and DVD it is easiest if you send the tape/disc to us by post. Please contact 
to get our postal address. (We can’t put that online as it’s sensitive information in countries like UK where your identity is just the combination of your name and address!)
If you use a digital camera, a mobile phone or a web camera, these devices tends to produce video files that can be transferred to a computer. You can then either send the file to (if it is no bigger than 15 MB) or burn it to a CD that you can send to us by post. Alternatively, you can try uploading the file to something like filecrunch and send us the link.
We would really appreciate if you send us a little video clip for our wedding, in particular if you can’t attend the wedding, but also if you just wish to say something to us and the guests!
Remember that we would need to have received the material in UK before 1. February 2008 to get a chance to edit it before we go to Mexico!
