Hotels in Puebla

Hotel deal
We’ve negotiated a discount four our guests in a nice, modern hotel in the centre of Puebla called NH Puebla. Of course you are free to stay wherever you like, but if you would like to take advantage of this offer, here are the details:
The hotel is in a good location, and very close to the city centre. It has a (tiny) swimming pool in the penthouse with a nice view of the town, on the roof there’s also a little gym studio if you feel you’ve had too many tacos, as well as a penthouse bar serving tequilas until late at night. The hotel is only three years old or so, and has a modern, simplistic style, with a high standard. Staff seems friendly, and they don’t seem to have any problems speaking English, in case it’s too early in the evening to practice your Spanish skills! Even the single rooms are spacious.
The negotiated rate is 820 MXN plus taxes (15% VAT + 2% accommodation tax) per double room, per night, ie. £38 / 404 kr. (Standard price in the period is £47 / 503 kr …). However, as in all the hotels, tips are not included. The recommended tips are 20 MXN for bell boys at entrance and exit, and 15 MXN per night for the maid, but if you are happy with the service feel free to show your satisfaction. Breakfast buffet for this offer is 130 MXN per day plus taxes (Normal price 160 MXN). Gaby’s recommendation is to go and try some other places in town as well. Don’t feel like you have to book the breakfast now, you could order breakfast on the day and benefit for the agreed rate.
Other hotels
We’ve also reviewed some of the other hotels in Puebla for your convenience. Note that we have not actually stayed in the hotels, although where we provide photos, we have visited the hotels and inspected the rooms. Please leave comments below about other hotels you have found or booked!
Note that some sites give prices in US dollars ($) and other in Mexican pesos (confusingly also often shown as $ or MX$). Since the currencies differ with a factor of 11 it should be relatively easy to see which is used. As of 2008-01-06 the currency rates were:
1 USD = 0.505 GBP = 5.38 NOK = 10.9 MXN
1 MXN = 0.0463 GBP = 0.493 NOK = 0.0916 USD
All prices given here are for one night in a double room (for two persons), including 15% sales tax and 2% accomodation tax, usually without breakfast (you should be able to find cheap and delicious breakfast anywhere nearby), and are updated as of 2008-01-07 unless otherwise noted.
Hotel Colonial £33 / 355 kr (based on 720 MXN) (warning: cheesy music on website!)
In the heart of city centre, very good location to stroll around the town and close to some of the most traditional poblano restaurants (Poblano = of Puebla). Not very spacious rooms, but value for money and still gives a rustique, colonial feeling. Quite delicious food in the restaurant of the hotel.
Best Western Real de Puebla £32 / 346 kr (based on 55 USD)
Avenida Juarez. One of the most important avenues, clubs and restaurants on it, nightlife hub, good area.
Fiesta Inn Puebla (Las Animas) £56 / 591 kr (prices as of 2007-08-31 as their site was down)
USA style hotel. Not in the centre, but located in a good area close to malls and amenities. Close to the Avenida Juarez (lots of restaurants and bars) Still, not far from city centre, approx 20 minutes in a taxi.
Camino Real £67 / 718 kr (Based on 114 USD)
Beautiful hotel, architecture style is very traditional of the colonial times (when the Spaniards where governing Mexico). Maybe a bit expensive, but the rooms have luxurious decorations, in the junior suite we visited the roof was almost 5 meters high and one could be dancing in the room. Stian has approved the cakes served in the patio inside.
